Tree Trimming & Pruning

Expert pruning that improves tree health, structure and appearance while reducing risk.

Proper pruning is part science, part craft. Bad pruning can permanently damage a tree; good pruning makes it stronger, safer and more beautiful. As a 444A Certified Arborist, we prune to industry (ANSI A300) standards, making the right cuts in the right places.

We can raise the canopy for clearance, thin it to let in light and reduce wind load, remove deadwood, and shape young trees for strong future structure.

What’s included

  • Crown thinning, raising and reduction
  • Deadwood and hazard-limb removal
  • Structural pruning for young trees
  • Clearance pruning from roofs, wires and driveways
  • Storm-damage cleanup and restoration pruning

When pruning helps

  • Branches overhanging your roof or driveway
  • Dense canopy blocking light or catching wind
  • Dead or crossing limbs
  • A young tree that needs shaping for good structure

The detail

Pruning to ANSI A300 standards

Good pruning is about making the right cut in the right place. We cut just outside the branch collar so the tree can seal the wound, and we never “top” trees. Topping creates weak, hazardous regrowth and decay. We also limit how much live canopy is removed at once to avoid stressing the tree.

Types of pruning we do

Crown thinning (selectively removing branches to let light and wind through), crown raising (lifting the canopy for clearance over roofs, driveways and sidewalks), crown reduction (carefully reducing height or spread), deadwooding, and structural pruning to give young trees strong long-term form.

The best time to prune

For many species the dormant season (late fall to late winter) is ideal, but dead, broken or hazardous limbs can be removed any time. Some species are best pruned at specific times to avoid disease or pests, so we’ll advise on the right timing for your trees.
